An index of selected original instrument/device designs—including both software and hardware devices. These devices primarily focus on chaotic sound generation and control structures, aiming to leverage some of the unique potential of electronics and software to obfuscate + complicate the relationship between a performer/composer and the sounds they create.
Why chaos? Chaotic structures can imbue an instrument with a sense of spontaneity and surprise, thereby shifting the performer’s focus to a state of active and deep listening. When you can’t quite predict how your actions will impact the sound of an instrument, you may begin to consider your actions more carefully, and engage more intimately with the sound. You may encounter moments of surprise or serendipity, and it is my assumption (and my prerogative to assume) that this is a good thing.
